General Notes

The South PTC Board and South teachers need several more Head Room Parents for the 2015/2016 school year.  Please consider volunteering.  To sign up, follow the link:  2015/2016 Head Room Parent Sign-Up

In addition, the South PTC Board is looking for a Committee of Volunteers to assist with ideas, planning, and set up for the 2015/2016 Walk-A-Thon and Family BBQ.  The Family BBQ is scheduled for October 2, 2015.  The Committee would meet several times prior to the Family BBQ. As soon as the Committee is formed, the planning process can begin. Please contact Victoria Talsma at 916-6867 or at Victoriatalsma@gmail.com if you are interested and able to help.

There will be a Back to School Night Open House tonight at 6:00 p.m. This is an important evening for children, parents, and teachers. Tonight you and your children will have the opportunity to meet the principal, Ryan Roberts, meet your child’s’ teacher, and familiarize yourself with your child’s new classroom.  Your children may also bring in their school supplies.

School will resume for all students today.  Please be aware of the new elementary schedule:  School begins at 8:28 a.m. and dismissal is at 3:41 p.m.

On Tuesday, June 2nd, the students will be participating in their chosen Penny War Reward.  5 more volunteers are needed for the afternoon shifts.   Without the required number of volunteers, the Penny War Reward will be cancelled.  Penny War Reward Volunteer Sign-Up

The 2014/2015 South Elementary PTC  Board thanks you for your support this year. The PTC (Parents, Teachers and Children) worked hard to provide your child with a great year.  Whether you were able to attend the monthly meetings, volunteer in your child’s classroom or at a special event, or make a donation, you continue to be a valuable part of South Elementary’s PTC.  We greatly appreciate all you do to help South Elementary PTC, the students, and the staff succeed.

The 2015/2016 South PTC Board is currently planning for next school year.  The Board has already met once and plans to meet several more times over the summer.

Today the 3rd grade students will take a Field Trip to Millennium Park and to the Whitecaps Field.

Tuesday, June 2nd

Today is the Penny Wars Reward (AM-lower, PM-upper). ATTENTION:  Students MUST wear socks to participate.  If you student does not wear socks to school, please send socks!!!!

Wednesday, June 3rd

This morning is the 6th Grade Breakfast.

The 1st grade students will take a Field Trip to Wedgewood Park.

Thursday, June 4th

Today is the 4th grade Field Trip to Lansing.

Friday, June 5th

There will be an all school Assembly this Moring.

Today is the last day of the 2014/2015 school year.  HAVE A GREAT SUMMER and see you next Fall.

Teachers and South Staff will be thanking the countless volunteers with “Joe to Go” from 7:45 a.m. to 8:20 a.m.

Today is also Field Day.  Please join your student(s) for a Family Picnic lunch on the playground from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 pm.  Please bring your lunch and a blanket or lawn chair. Also the ever popular Tug-O-War will take place at 3:00 p.m.  Lastly, one more volunteer is needed to make and serve snow cones.   Field Day Volunteers

General Notes

Volunteers Needed to make and serve snow cones on Field Day, Thursday, May 28th.  Field Day Volunteers

The Monday/Wednesday Girls On The Run Team is collecting & organizing craft supplies for the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital as part of their Spring Service Project.  Donations will be accepted this week and can be placed in the decorated box in the office. Please be advised that due to a lack of volunteers,  the final Popcorn Friday of the year was cancelled.

This week is Teacher Appreciation Week. Please be sure to show our South Staff how much they mean to us.  A committee of parents has organized an awesome week .  You can see what has been planned for each day below.  Also, individual Room Parents may have made arrangements for special ways to thank our teachers.  You or your student(s) can also write a quick note to say “Thank You.”

Tonight is the final Pizza Hut Night for the 2014/2015 school year.  Please join us at the Grandville Pizza Hut on 28th Street. South PTC receives 20% of sales from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Note the time change: South PTC can now earn a percentage of sales for lunch and late-night dining. The Pizza Hut flyer came home in your student’s Friday Folder last week.  Please feel free to give copies to your non-South friends and neighbors.  Sales can be dine-in, carry-out, or delivery.

Please join us this morning for the final PTC Meeting of the 2014/2015 school year.  The meeting will start at 9:00 a.m. and everyone is invited and encouraged to attend.  Three of the current PTC Board Members will not be returning next year. Please join us in thanking them for their dedication and hard work. Hope to see you there!!

Tuesday, April 28th

Tonight is the Mother-Daughter Event in the South Gym.  The event will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m., so please plan to arrive by 5:45 p.m. to register and get seated.

Wednesday, April 29th

NEW DEADLINE:  The PTC Board and Mr. Roberts have extended the deadline to order Field Day t-shirts to today. As mentioned last week, to display our school spirit at South, Principal Roberts would like to see all students, teachers, and staff wearing matching shirts on Field Day.  As a result, the PTC Board has arranged for the sale of t-shirts  at cost.   Again, Order Forms are now due today. When completing your order, although there is not a space provided, please provide the student’s name, the teacher’s name, and the t-shirt size for each t-shirt purchased for a student. This is especially important if you have more than one student as parent volunteers and Mr. Roberts will be distributing the t-shirts on Field Day.  Please note that you can also order shirts for older siblings, parents, grandparents etc.

The First Grade will have their Field Trip this afternoon to the Grandville Library.

Friday, May 1st

Today is the final Popcorn Friday.  On Popcorn Fridayseach student receives a bag of popcorn, compliments of the PTC.  If you are able to help pop, package, or deliver popcorn, please contact Anne Bengtson at 304-8282 or annebengtson@me.com.

Today is the Pony Farm Field Trip for Young 5s and Kindergarteners.

Tonight is a Benefit Pasta Dinner for Hannah Steenhagen and Family from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the South Elementary School gymnasium. Suggested dinner donation is $15 per person.  RSVPs requested (but not necessary) by April 29th to terri.c.brower@gmail.com.  This Benefit is sponsored by Bethel#10 Grand Rapids- Job’s Daughters International, Mrs. Moore’s Sixth Grade class, and Hannah’s family.

The 5th Grade students will be participating in MSTEP Testing this week.

Monday, April 20th

The 3rd Grade student will have Eye Dissection this morning.  Thanks to all the parents who have volunteered to help make this is a successful learning experience.

Friday, April 24th
