Special Announcement Regarding Final PTC Meeting

You are invited to attend the final PTC meeting of the 2012/2013 school year. Please join us at 9:00 a.m. and meet and welcome the new Board Members for the 2013/2014 school.  Do you want to hear how your fundraising dollars were spent this year?  Do you have fundraiser or event ideas for next year?   Hope to see you there.

Special Announcement Regarding Election Day

Today is Grandville School District Bond Proposal Election Day. The polls are open until 8:00 p.m. tonight.

The Grandville Public Schools Board of Education has placed a $75,205,000 bond proposition on the Tuesday, May 7, 2013 ballot. If approved, this proposal will not result in a millage increase. The existing tax levy of 3.2 mills, which is already less than half of what most neighboring districts levy, will be extended 25 years.

Each school within the district will be renovated depending on its current age, condition and need for improvements. More than half of the funds for the “brick and mortar” portion of the bond proposition are dedicated to facility upgrades at our seven elementary schools.

At South Elementary

•main entryway will be redesigned to enhance safety and security

•video surveillance and electronic lock mechanisms will be installed

•office will be relocated and remodeled to accommodate more space for conference room and a nurse area

•heating system (unit ventilators) will be replaced in classrooms for improved energy efficiency and air quality

•restrooms will be renovated to bring up to current code

•cabinetry/casework will be replaced where necessary

•kitchen and serving area will be renovated and expanded

•fire alarm system will be replaced

•doors and door hardware will be replaced to meet code and enhance safety

•lockers will be added/replaced in corridors

•lighting in classrooms and corridors will be replaced for energy efficiency

•aged ceilings will be replaced

•some furnishings and equipment will be replaced due to age and condition

Cost of the Proposal

• The total cost of the bond proposition is $75,205,000. However, if approved, this proposal will not result in a millage increase because the existing bonded debt (for construction of the high school and Century Park Learning Center) expires in 2015.

• If approved, the existing tax levy of 3.2 mills will remain in place. Thus, the annual tax burden will not increase. The bonds will be paid off over 25 years.

• The average millage projected to retire the bonded debt over the 25 year period is 2.57 mills, which is lower than the current millage rate.

What do other districts levy?

Grandville Public Schools currently levies 3.2 mills for the bonds issued to build Grandville High School and Century Park Learning Center. Two years from now, in May 2015, that debt expires. If this bond proposal is approved on May 7, 2013, the millage rate will not increase. Grandville Public Schools will continue its status as having one of the lowest school district debt levies in both Kent and Ottawa counties.

The chart below illustrates the debt levies of nearby school districts.
