Weekly Update for October 13-17

General Notes

Library Book Fair:  It’s that time of year again and the Library needs you.  We always look forward to the Fall Book Fair, especially Family Night. This is a great time to purchase gifts for the holidays or pick up a few extra items for your kids, encouraging the value of reading.  The Library needs many volunteers to make this happen and we would love for you join us. Volunteer Needed:  The PTC is looking for a Volunteer Coordinator for the Tyson A Plus and Gordon Fun Funds.  These fundraisers are similar to the Box Top fundraiser.  Please contact Victoria at victoriatalsma@gmail.com.

Market Day:   Market Day information and order forms came home in Friday Folders last week. Please note that orders are due by October 24th. Orders may be placed on-line or with the paper order form.  All checks should be made out to Market Day.  Market Day Pick Up is October 30, 2014 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.  Participation in Market Day is completely voluntary.   Please see the link for on-line orders and more information.   Market Day  In addition, this month Market Day is running a special with the purchase of pies.  If South students sell up to 99 pies, South PTC will earn 15% on pie sales, for 100-499 pies, South PTC will earn 30%, and for sale of more than 500 pies, South PTC will earn 45% of of pie sales.   These pies will be perfect for the holidays.  As an extra incentive, Principal Roberts has agreed that each student who sells 5 pies will be able to throw a pie in his face.  In addition, the class that sells the most pies will be rewarded with a Cotton Candy Party.   DEADLINEMarket Day and pie orders are due no later than October 24th.

Monday, October 13th

Please join us tonight for the 2nd PTC Meeting of the 2014/2015 school year. The meeting will start at 7:00 p.m. and everyone is invited and encouraged to attend.  Samples of the Market Day pies will be available at the meeting.

The Good News Club begins today.

Thursday, October 16th

The Kindergartners will be taking a Field Trip to Crane’s Apple Orchard today.

Parent Teacher Conferences take place tonight between 4:00 and 7:00 p.m. You should have already been notified by your student’s teacher of your conference date and time. Please note that daycare will be provided.  Thank you to the volunteers who are helping with Conference Meals.

Friday, October 17th

Today starts the 2014 Yankee Candle Sale.  South PTC receives 40% of all orders. Information regarding the sale will be in this week’s Friday Folders.  In addition to sales on the order form, you can sign up your student on the Yankee Candle Sale website and all online orders will count towards prizes. DEADLINEYankee Candle Sale orders are due no later than November 3rd.  There will be a Yankee Candle Assembly at 2:15 p.m. to kick off the sale.

 

 

Weekly Update for September 8-12

General Notes

  • We hope all South students are adjusting well to their new classrooms and routines and have another great week of school.
  • This year, South PTC will be offering Market Day fundraising.  Please look for order and delivery information in your student’s Friday Folder this week.  To find out more about Market Day, please see Market Day Webpage.
  • Pick-up Announcement:  If you are picking up your students at the main entrance at the end of the school day, the South staff requests that parents wait at the sidewalk and avoid the area under the overhang and benches.  This will assist teachers as they dismiss students.

Wednesday, September 10th

  • Tonight is the 6th Grade Orchestra Parent/Student Meeting at 7:00 pm at the High School.
  • DIBELS testing will take place in the afternoon today.

Thursday, September 11th

  • Today is Picture Day.  Order forms and information came home with your student in his or her Friday Folder. Be sure to send your picture order form to school with your student(s).
  • Tonight is Parent Night for Young 5s and Kindergarten.  Parent Night will begin at 6:00 pm and end at 7:30 pm.  Please plan to arrive early to sign up to chaperon field trips and help with special events in the classroom.
  • DIBELS testing will take place today,

Friday, September 12th

  • Please join us for the 1st PTC Meeting of 2014/2015 school year at 9:00 a.m.  All parents are welcome and encouraged to attend. Day care will NOT be available. Please come to meet Mr. Roberts, your new Board members, and find out what the PTC has planned for this year. Meetings generally last between 1 and 2 hours, but please join us for any portion of the meeting you are able to attend.
  • Community Tailgater: Grandville fans are “Wanted” tonight for the Community Tailgater prior to the Grandville v. Muskegon varsity football game.  The Community Tailgater will take place from 5:00 to 6:45 p.m. (Game time is 7:00 p.m.).  Cost is $5 per ticket or $20 per family and includes a hot dog,chips, dessert and entrance to the game.  There will also be raffles, face painting, Mascot visits, lawn games, music and more. The Community Tailgater will take place in the front of the High School pool entrance. In case of rain, the Community Tailgater will be moved to the cafeteria.  Tonight is Western Night at Bulldog Stadium so SADDLE UP and come in your best WESTERN GEAR.   Tickets may be purchased at South, the Community Ed. office, the High School Athletic office, or a the that Community Tailgater.
  • Today is 6th Grade “B” music day.

Special Announcement Regarding Final PTC Meeting

You are invited to attend the final PTC meeting of the 2012/2013 school year. Please join us at 9:00 a.m. and meet and welcome the new Board Members for the 2013/2014 school.  Do you want to hear how your fundraising dollars were spent this year?  Do you have fundraiser or event ideas for next year?   Hope to see you there.

Weekly Update for May 6-10

Monday through Friday is Teacher Appreciation Week. The PTC is providing and/or helped organize a luncheon catered by Qdobo, two breakfasts, and three small gifts.   In addition, several parents have planned some other fantastic ways to celebrate our wonderful teachers!!

Tuesday

Tuesday, May 7 is Election Day.  Don’t forget to vote “YES” for the Grandville School District Bond Proposal!!!  Great things are coming for our Grandville students!!!

Wednesday

Please join us this morning for Muffins with Moms. Additional fathers (and mothers) are needed to volunteer. Please contact Audra at audrahollamon@aol.com to volunteer.

Today is the Buffalo Wild Wing Fundraiser.  All day  South Elementary PTC will earn 20% of all food and drink sales.  A Flyer should have gone home closer in the last Friday Folder and can be found at the link below.  Please feel free to print and give copies to your non-South friends and neighbors.  Note that qualifying sales can be dine-in or carry-out.  Also, Wednesday nights are “Kids Nights” at Buffalo Wild Wings with reduced kids’ meals, crafts, and an ice cream sundae bar.

The final PTC Meeting for the 2012/2013 school year will take place today at 9:00 a.m.  Please come and welcome the new Board Members.

Weekly Update for April 8-12

Monday

Please join us tonight for the 7th PTC Meeting of the 2012/2013 school year. The meeting will start at 7:00 p.m. and everyone is invited and encouraged to attend. The PTC will be presenting a proposal for the purchase of equipment and supplies for the school.  All attendees will vote on the proposal as the total amount exceeds $500.00.   This is a meeting you do not want t0 miss.

Thursday

There will be a Skating Party tonight at Tarry Hall Skating Rink from 6pm-8pm. Admission is $4 and includes skate rental. In-line skates are an additional $2. Tarry Hall offers drinks and snacks for sale. The PTC will be raffling staff donated gifts.  Parents or other responsible adult or guardian must attend with the student.

Friday

Today is Pajama Day.  For $1 your student(s) may wear school appropriate pajamas to school.

PTC Board Nominations Forms for the 2013-2014 PTC Board Members will come home today in Friday Folders.  Forms must be returned by Monday, April 15th.

Monday

Please join us tonight for the 6th PTC Meeting of the 2012/2013 school year. The meeting will start at 7:00 p.m. and everyone is invited and encouraged to attend.  Grandville Public School Superintendent Ron Caniff will be joining us to provide a synopsis of the Bond Proposal for the May 2013 election.   This is a meeting you should not miss.

Tuesday

Tonight is Pizza Hut Night. Please join us at the Grandville Pizza Hut on 28th Street. South PTC receives 20% of sales from the evening. Look for the Pizza Hut handout in your student’s backpack on Monday or print a copy from this blog. Please feel free to print and give copies to your non-South friends and neighbors. Sales can be dine-in, carry-out, or delivery. A complete list of all Pizza Hut nights can be found on this blog under “Important Dates.”

The Spring Book Fair ends this week, with the final Family Night tonight.  Thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who help make  this fun event run so smoothly.

Weekly Update for February 4-9

General Notes

FAMILY FARE CASH FOR CLASS PROGRAM is happening this week. South is participating in the D&W Fresh Market and Family Fare Cash for Class Program to earn money for our school. Purchases you make between February 3rd and  February 9th with your ‘yes’ card will automatically be credited to our school account. In order for your purchases to count, you must first link your ‘yes’ card to our school’s Cash for Class Code (South Elementary’s Cash for Class Code is 75045). As a ‘yes’ cardholder, please go to http://www.myrewards.com to link your card. Please don’t forget to link your ‘yes’ card to our school, shop during the Program Weeks, and help our school raise additional dollars to support our students.

Monday

Tonight there is a Grandville School Board Meeting at 7:00 p.m at the Administration Building.  The School Board will be discussing and likely voting on the Citizen’s Facility and Technology Committees  recommendations to the Board relative to the May 2013 Bond Proposal.  The public is ALWAYS welcome.

Friday

Please join us this Friday for the 5th PTC Meeting of the 2012/2013 school year. The meeting will start at 9:00 a.m. and everyone is invited and encouraged to attend.  It is anticipated that there will be a discussion regarding the purchase of various items for South with PTC funds as well as a discussion of the upcoming nominations and election for the 2013/2014 PTC Board members.
