Weekly Update for November 17-21

General Notes

Recently, the GVSU surplus store gave Julie Moore’s 6th grade several chairs and tables for classroom use.  Please follow the link for the complete story.  GVSU donates to South 6th Grade

Monday, November 17th

The first South Skating Party of the school year at Tarry Hall is tonight from 6-8 pm.  The cost of admission is $5.00 and all skate rental is $1.00 extra.  Tarry Hall offers drinks and snacks for sale.  Parents or other responsible adult or guardian must attend with the student.

Tonight there is also a School Board Meeting. The Board of Education meets on the first and third Mondays of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Administration Building, 3839 Prairie, SW. Minutes of each meeting are available in the superintendent’s office.

Wednesday, November 19th

The Good News Club meets today.

Today is the Buffalo Wild Wing Fundraiser.  All day (11:30 a.m. to close) South Elementary PTC will earn 20% of all food and drink sales.  A Flyer should have come home in Friday Folders and is available at the link below.  Please feel free to print and give copies to your non-South friends and neighbors.  Note that qualifying sales can be dine-in or carry-out.  Also, Wednesday nights are “Kids Nights” at Buffalo Wild Wings with reduced kids’ meals, crafts, and an ice cream sundae bar.  Buffalo Wild Wings Flyer 11/19/2014

Family Fare Cash for Class is happening this week. South is participating in the D&W Fresh Market and Family Fare Cash for Class Program to earn money for our school. Purchases you make between November 23-November 29 with your ‘yes’ card will automatically be credited to our school account.  The program is tied directly to your yes Rewards card.   You can choose up to two (2) schools to link your yes card.   Go to Cash for Class website to link your card to the schools of your choice. You only have to link your yes card once and you will not have to remember to tell the cashier during the event weeks – once you link your card – it will automatically calculate the donation for the school chosen.   In April 2015, schools will receive checks based on the percentage of all members’ purchases. Already a yes member but don’t have an on-line account set up? Just visit the yes website at Cash for Class , click on ‘First-Time to Site?’ and follow the steps to complete your on-line account registration. During the registration process, you will be able to link your school code (s).

Tuesday, November 25th

Market Day paper order forms are due today.    All checks should be made out to Market Day.  Orders may be placed on-line through Wednesday, November 26, 2014.  Market Day Pick Up is Thursday, December 4, 2014 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.  Participation in Market Day is completely voluntary.   Please see the link for on-line orders and more information.   Market Day  Also, Market Day is running a special this month on cookie dough. Weekly Update for November 10-14

This Week:

Monday, November 10th

During this week, South Elementary will be sponsoring a Food Drive to benefit local food pantries. A table will be set up in the lobby and donations will be excepted through Friday, November 14th.  Donation suggestions include: soup, canned meat, rice, cereal, spaghetti sauce, canned fruits and vegetables, peanut butter, pasta products, boxed dinners, and personal care products.

There will be a Reproductive Health Parent Preview tonight for parents of students grades 4th-6th. The Preview will take place in the Administration Building located at 3839 Prairie Street.

Friday, November 14th

Please join us for the 3rd PTC Meeting of 2014/2015 school year at 9:00 a.m.  All parents are welcome and encouraged to attend. Day care will NOT be available. Meetings generally last between 1 and 2 hours, but please join us for any portion of the meeting you are able to attend.

Weekly Update for April 8-12

Monday

Please join us tonight for the 7th PTC Meeting of the 2012/2013 school year. The meeting will start at 7:00 p.m. and everyone is invited and encouraged to attend. The PTC will be presenting a proposal for the purchase of equipment and supplies for the school.  All attendees will vote on the proposal as the total amount exceeds $500.00.   This is a meeting you do not want t0 miss.

Today is Pajama Day.  For $1 your student(s) may wear school appropriate pajamas to school.

PTC Board Nominations Forms for the 2013-2014 PTC Board Members will come home today in Friday Folders.  Forms must be returned by Monday, April 15th.

Weekly Update for October 29-November 2

Wednesday

The Halloween Parade will begin at 2:00 p.m. The classroom Halloween Parties will take place immediately after the parade, or as directed by the teacher. Thank you to our Head Room Parents for making this an exciting day for our students. Some classes are still in need of additional volunteers during the party. Please contact your Head Room Parent if you are able to help.

Friday

Today is a Popcorn/Spirit Day. Each student will receive a bag of popcorn, compliments of PTC. Also please wear your DAWG gear or other maroon and white clothes to show your support of South.

Today the South PTC will also be awarding the Walk-a-Thon classroom winners with pizza parties at lunch. Thanks again for all your support.

Please look for order forms in Friday Folders for new t-shirts, hoodies, and sweatpants.

Weekly Update for March 12-16

Tuesday
At 9:00 a.m. in the teacher’s lounge, the PTC will hold its sixth PTC meeting of the school year. All parents are welcome and encouraged to attend. Meetings generally last between 1 and 2 hours, but please join us for any portion of the meeting you are able to attend. Day care is available.

Parent Teacher Conferences take place tonight between 4:00 and 8:00 p.m. You should have already been notified by your student’s teacher of your conference date and time. Thank you to the volunteers for all your help with Conference Meals for the staff of South.

Please join the South Elementary Library for the 2012 Spring Book Fair this week. Students may shop during his or her particular classes scheduled  time. A copy of the schedule should have been sent home in Friday Folders courtesy of the library. Tonight is the final Book Fair Family Fun night. Please join your friends from 3:30 to 8:00 p.m. for books as well as games, prizes, and other treats.

The Library is looking for a few volunteers to help with clean up and tear down of the Book Fair. Please contact Amanda at amandaregnerus@gmail.com if you are able to help.

Weekly Update for October 31 to November 4

General Notes
The PTC Board would like to thank all of the Halloween Party Planners and parent volunteers for great Halloween Parties last Friday. The parties would not be possible without your hard work.

Head Room Parents, if you have not already done so, please introduce yourself to your child’s teacher and send out an introductory letter to the parents. Samples of an introductory letter can be found on this blog.
