The PTC Board would like to thank all our South students, staff, and families for making the Walk-a-Thon Fundraiser and Free Family BBQ such HUGE successes. South Elementary raised almost $12,000.00 with the Walk-a-Thon and we hope everyone who attended the BBQ had a fantastic time. Final results for the Walk-a-Thon fundraiser will be posted in the October Newsletter.
The PTC Board thanks ALL of the wonderful volunteers who gave unselfishly of their time at the Walk-a-Thon, Family BBQ, or both. A very special thank you to our Dunk Tank volunteers, Mr. Arends, Mr. Karnehm, Mr. Leonard, Mr. Smith, Mrs. Vezino, and Mr. Shultz.

There will be a Head Room Parent meeting at South at 6:30 p.m. Please look for signs in the school lobby for the meeting location. At that time, we will discuss plans and ideas for the upcoming year, as well as some new ideas for Teacher Appreciation Week, Holiday gifts, and more. All Head Room Parents are invited to attend. If you have been a Head Room Parent in the past, this is a great time to share your party plans, game ideas, etc.
Today is the first Popcorn/Spirit Day. Each student will receive a bag of popcorn, compliments of PTC. Also please wear your DAWG gear or other maroon and white clothes to show your support of South.
Walk-a-Thon pledges are due on Thursday, September 27th. This is only two days away. As of 3:00 p.m. today, South students have raised $3,200.00. This is well below our goal of $20,000.00 and even below what we raised last year ($14,000.00). Please take a few minutes to review our proposed budget (Voting to approve the budget will take place at the October PTC meeting) to see how we use this money throughout the school year.
Free Family BBQ
The PTC is looking for additional volunteers to work a one hour shift during the Free Family BBQ this Friday. Shifts are available from 4:30 to 5:30, 5:30 to 6:30 and 6:30 to 7:30. So far, we have over 450 RSVPs and are looking forward to great turnout and evening. If you are able to help, please e-mail email@example.com. Any help is greatly appreciated. Currently some volunteers are working two shifts and we would like it if every volunteer was only needed for one hour.
South PTC participates in several money making programs. More information can be found below or under the Money Makers Page on the blog.
1. Family Fare Cash for Class is happening this week. South is participating in the D&W Fresh Market and Family Fare Cash for Class Program to earn money for our school. Purchases you make between September 23 – September 29 with your ‘yes’ card will automatically be credited to our school account. In order for your purchases to count, you must first link your ‘yes’ card to our school’s Cash for Class Code (South Elementary’s Cash for Class Code is 75045). As a ‘yes’ cardholder, please go to http://www.myrewards.com to link your card. The schools you selected last year have been removed from your card – you will need to link your school of choice to your card again. You only have to link your yes card once each school year and you will not have to remember to tell the cashier during the event weeks – once you link your card – it will automatically calculate the donation for the school chosen.
2. South PTC is continuing to collect your Box Top, Campbells, Spartan and Tyson food labels. Box Top labels should be turned in on the sheets available on the blog and in the school lobby. All other labels should be placed in a baggie or envelope. Be to sure to include your student’s name and teacher’s name on all Box Top Sheets, on envelopes, or in the baggies. The PTC shall be holding a labels contest in the future and more information will be provided at that time. If you have any questions, please contact Deb at firstname.lastname@example.org.
3. As you may know, there is a PaperGator® at South. PaperGator® is a unique fundraiser where the South PTC is paid to collect paper products and place them in a bin for recycling.
What can go in the bins? What can’t go in the bins?
Junk Mail Trash
Phone Books Glass
Office/School paper Cardboard
Hard and soft cover books Paperboard (Grocery Item boxes)
For more information, visit: http://papergatorrecycling.com/index.htm
4. Lastly, please take a few minutes and link your Target Red Card to earn money for South on all your purchases.
