South PTC Updates 4.30.18

Hello South families!  Its the final stretch of this school year!  Just a few things to give you a heads up on.

If you have a teacher request for the coming year, make sure to get it in by tomorrow (Tuesday May 1)!  Forms are available in the office.

We are doing another movie fundraiser- Avengers Infinity War!  It’s this Friday May 4th at 7pm at Celebration Rivertown.  The flyers were set to go home this past Friday (Or check for them today) https://www.facebook.com/events/163903077620416
Tickets are $10 each.  You also have the option to pre-purchase pop & popcorn combos at a discount.  Small size combo is $5, Regular size combo is $7.  Make sure to send in your form (Or write on a piece of paper what you’d like to purchase with your check or cash)  You will be able to pick up your tickets at the movie theater on Friday from 6:30-6:50pm.  PTC Board member Beth DeLoizer will be at a table right outside the box office with the tickets!

There will also be another Moms Night Out movie announced soon!

Teacher Appreciation is next week! May 7-11, so be on the lookout from notes from your room parents if they are collecting towards a gift card or doing a small item each day.  Parents are choosing to collect money only and then purchase the gifts themselves. Others are choosing to participate in daily themes as we’ve done in previous years. Some do a combo of both. If you choose to participate in the daily themes they will be:
Mon – hand written card/picture
Tues – sweet treat (store bought or gift card) NO HOMEMADE
Wed – flower (store bought or drawn/created)
Thurs – class supply
Fri – pamper supplies/gift card

Teachers love the items from the kids and you do not have to spend a lot of money on it!  The homemade notes, cards and pictures are truly treasured by the teachers.

Flower Sale went great and we earned over $1400!  That’s 317 baskets/pots sold!  Please plan to pickup your items on Thursday May 10th from 1pm-6pm at the school parking lot.

May 16th is our Cone World Fundraiser- flyer will be sent home next week!

Friday May 18th is the Kindergarten Beach Day party in the K Classrooms.  A fun day for the kids!

Donuts with Mom is coming up on Friday May 18th from 7:30-8:15.  Moms/Grandma’s/Aunties/Friend etc stop by with your South students to enjoy a donut before school starts!  We would love to have some dads stop out and help serve the donuts and set up tables before people arrive. You can meet at the school at 6:30am to begin set up.

Field Day is Friday May 25th.  Class times have not been announced yet but I will post as soon as I receive them!  And everyone is welcome to come watch the kids compete during their times.  PTC will be serving the kids snowcones as they finish their competitions and we could use help running the snow cone machine and serving the kids as they come up.  It’s really easy and we only need about 2-3 more parents.  So if you want to come help (and hopefully enjoy the sun) let me know.  I’ll post on Facebook about it for volunteers too!

Also on Friday May 25th is the family picnic!  All Parents are invited to bring a sack lunch up to the school and enjoy lunch outside with the kids!  Bring bag chairs and blankets too as outside seating is limited.  We will have any remaining Grandville gear out for sale along with our South bumper stickers, so please bring cash if yo’re interested in any items.

The Garden is in full swing thanks to Amy Gardine!  If you missed the posts on Facebook go take a look.  Happy kids making stepping stones and helping in the greenhouse!
Amy has asked for parent volunteers to come up & help May 15 & 16th.  The wood chips have brought the soil levels down and she needs to abate the soil- which means we need Dairy Doo or “Raised Bed Soil”  She found a great deal at Big Top Market at 36th & Clyde Park (3630 Clyde Park Ave SW, Wyoming, MI) so if you have time, swing by & grab a few bags to drop off at the garden, or donations are welcome and she can pick up the bags!  3 bags for $6.  Sign up here!
Once the soil is corrected there will be an all school planting day on May 17th where teachers are signing up for time slots and the kids will come out to help plant this years crops!  I’ll post times once we have them so if you’d like to stop by, you can do so with your kids class.

If you’ve misplaced the April lunch menu and are wondering what tomorrows meal is, the link is HERE

Also, As the beginning of the month and close to the end of school, may be a good time to reload your students lunch account, the link to Send Money To School is HERE.

Below I have laid out the rest of the school year events as they stand right now.  I will update as we get closer to each one or if details change.  I hope the PTC Facebook page is helpful to all of you with whats going on or coming up at the school.  We do our best to keep the page helpful and to use as a good resource for parents with what they can participate in at the classrooms or ways to help us raise money!  I also create events for every major thing going on, so when you can’t remember, or find the sheet of paper telling you when something is happening, please use this as a resource!  Make sure you have your settings set to see the page first and get notifications for the events.

Other happenings to note:

We had a great PTC Meeting Thursday night, Thank you to those who were able to come out!  We did discuss the drop-off/Parking issues with Principal Roberts.  Many face the same issue of coming upon people who park in drop off lanes, or cause traffic problems by stopping too early, or not pulling up all the way to allow multiple cars to unload.  Signs are coming and a revised letter with instructions will be sent home.  Please do your best and respect the others around you.  Remember, the safety of the children is the most important thing.

South PTC Update 1.7.18

Hello South families!  I hope everyone had a great break and the kids are ready to head back to school!  Here’s whats coming up!

The extended drop off lane in front of the school will be a great way to unload kids and pickup with this cold weather!  Multiple cars should be un/loading at the same time.  Do not wait to get to the front space before unloading.  Same goes for the side pickup for the Upper El.  Do not park and exit your car in any of the drop off areas.  If your student needs help exiting the vehicle, or if you need to exit the vehicle, then you MUST find a parking spot.  It creates a traffic hazard to have drivers opening their doors and stepping into traffic lanes.  Please follow these rules and tell anyone who will be picking up or dropping off kids about the rules (Grandparents, sitters, daycare, siblings).

Sub Sale order forms and checks are due on Wednesday!  We hope the break gave you a good opportunity to show family & friends the order forms.  We think this will be a great fundraiser with something that everyone likes!  And we appreciate your support by asking friends, family & co-workers!  Sub pickup is February 8th after school, please make a note to be there for pickup as we cannot keep orders since they have to be refrigerated.  We will plan to be at the school until 6pm that night!

Wednesday night is also our Big Boy dining Fundraiser. Make sure to turn in your flyer to the cashier when you pay.  They donate 100% of the profits back to South!

Friday January 12th is a free popcorn Friday where all students receive a free bag of popcorn as a thanks for the PTC!

Saturday January 13th is a Griffins fundraiser night!  Purchase tickets with our code and South earns a donation back per ticket purchased.  This is a deal that can be shared, copy & paste and share with your friends!
January 13th.  Superhero Night – Scarf and Comic Book Giveaway (first 2,000 fans) – Post Game Autograph Session
You can buy your tickets here-

South PTC update 12.17.17

Hey South families,

We had a great PTC meeting on Friday, thanks to those who come out! Heres a few highlights-

  • You may have noticed the new extended drop off in front of the school!  The crews just uncovered the extra sidewalk that was just installed, so now MORE kids can exit cars in front of the school at one time.  Remember- NO PARKING!  Keep the line moving, make ure kids are ready to go when you pull up.  Drivers should NOT be exiting their vehicles.  If you wish to exit, find a parking spot.
  • If your student will have a change in their end of day home transportation, teachers and office need to be notified as far in advance as possible.  Teachers do not always have time to check emails during the day, and students do forget to turn in notes with instructions.  Please help notify the teachers and staff as early in the day as you can.
  • Also, please notify teachers as far in advance as possible if you’d like to get homework or assignments for a student who will be out for multiple days

Our Winter fundraiser flyer for Frandale foods came home on Friday.  It’s a local company and we have heard great reviews on their products!  Thanks in advance for posting at work and sharing with friends and family during the holiday!

We have had a great restaurant dining night turnouts, our most recent ones- Applebees brought in $484 and Potbelly brought in $232!  We try to offer a lot of options- which is more work for our coordinator, but we know that everyone’s schedules and tastes are different.  So we thank you for participating in the ones you like and that work with your schedule!  And because it has been going well and our budget is looking great for everything we still have planned, we have decided to cancel Penny Wars.  We are formulating a plan to bring them back next year and put the money to good use.

The Grandville gear orders and the free shirts will be in the later half of this week!  I’ll be contacting you if you had a large order.  You’ll be able to pick them up Friday at school if you’re coming in for class parties.

Carnival is coming up quick- January 26th 4:30pm-8pm.  Volunteers are needed!  Please use this sign up if you’re able to volunteer!

Do you follow our Facebook page?  Did you know I create an “event” for the school wide events that we do?  Just select “Going” or “Interested” and you’ll get a reminder on your phone (If you have your settings configured to display Facebook Event Reminders)  I know it helps me a ton to see reminders for things coming up and I hope it helps others!

The next Griffins fundraiser game is January 13th.  Superhero Night – Scarf and Comic Book Giveaway (first 2,000 fans) – Post Game Autograph Session

I still also have GR Drive tickets available at $12 each for their game on December 28th.  Please send in money or check to South PTC with how many tickets you want and Child/teachers name and I can have them sent home or available for pickup on Friday at the class parties!

I’m also working on a time for a Rebounderz fundraiser but it will be Friday December 29th, as soon as time is determined, I will post on facebook (Create an event) and I hope to have the flyer sent home this Friday!

Also, last call for any Campbells Labels for Education cutouts that you might have!  The program ends 12/31 and I need to have all final submissions postmarked by then, so please have them to the school by Friday 12/22.

Each year the 6th grade classes participate in a community service project of their choosing. This year, the students will be collecting donations for the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans. If your family would like to help by donating to this wonderful cause, there will be donation boxes in the lobby until December 22nd. Please see the attached donation “Wish List” provided by the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans.
