Carnival is scheduled for Friday January 26th 430-8pm.  Volunteer sign up schedule will be posted soon.  We will be looking for donations of 2 liters of pop, theatre size boxes of candy, suckers, and baked goods for the cake walk!  There will be opportunity to help on Thursday January 25th in the evening from 5pm-9pm with pre-set up and organization and decorating.  The 26th is a half day, so we will have much more time to get the school and rooms ready than last year.  Volunteers for set up on the 26th, running games, and clean up will be needed!  We can’t run the games without the help of parents who can give an hour of their time.  We will again be reaching out to NHS students as well.

Hat Day- Thanks to everyone who participated in Hat Day with your donations, South was able to send a few more students to the Shop with A Cop program.  There were 14 students total from South who were able to participate, thanks to you and to the Grandville police Department!

Thanks for all of your support!  Have a great week!

Thanks to everyone who came out for Bad Moms 2 last week.  That was a lot of fun and I’ll be working on more movie fundraisers!

I also posted on the South PTC Facebook page about a possible Rebounderz fundraiser night, please make sure to make your selections so I can find the best time and an estimated number of attendees.

The lost & found section is growing, majority of items have been hung up to try to make it easier for students to spot their missing things.  Come in and take a look if you’r student is missing an item!

Also, the trophy case that the PTC paid for has been installed.  The maintenance dept created a new base for it and Mr. Roberts has begun adding trophies to it.  It was also used to display the Veterans pictures that were sent in!  It looks really nice and we can’t wait to see all the accomplishments that we get to show off thanks to the hard work of our South students!  Come in and take a look, its just to the right of the gym doors!

Thanks for your support!

South PTC News 10.29.17

Happy Sunday South families,

Thanks to everyone who participated in the Dining Fundraising night on Friday.  We hope that having 3 places to choose from helped your family pick where to eat at for a fun Friday night out!  We’d like to remind everyone that the Fundraiser dining night flyers are not discount coupons.  The idea of a fundraising dining night is that you pay regular price, and the restaurant donates a portion of the nights proceeds back to the school.  We appreciate everyone’s support and the donations from local businesses!

This week Tuesday Is Halloween and the school costume parade will take place at 2pm in the halls of the school.  If you plan to come and watch the parade, please remember that parking will be full and you will need to park down the streets.  Dont block the bus lane or the pickup lanes.  As noted in the Infinite Campus message sent home- “First of all, please remember that costumes may not have any blood or gore and students may not carry weapons of any kind. Please keep costumes for both students and parents appropriate.  Secondly, our South parade beings at 2:00 and will take place inside the hallways of the school. If you will be taking your student home early after the classroom party, please make sure to connect with your student’s teacher before you leave. Thank you for your cooperation in helping us make this a fun and safe day for your students!!!”
Thanks to all the room parents and parents sending in donations, please make sure to send those tomorrow or Tuesday morning, or bring with you if you’re volunteering at the party on Tuesday in the classrooms!

A reminder about sick/late children procedures– If the office staff has not heard from you by 9am, they will call you to find out the status of your child, please save them the work of calling you and please call to leave a message on the attendance line!  Please read the information below for what they need to know:

-State Name of student, teacher, reason for absence (ex. Vacation or illness)
-if sick, please specify whether it is respiratory, fever, or a stomach bug if these descriptions apply.
When a student is going to be tardy due to an appointment, etc.:

The first South Book Exchange on Friday went great!  We had tons of students participate and tons of books for them to pick from!  Thank you to all the parents for the generous donations of books from home.  We hope all the students that participated picked out some great new to them books.  It was very cute to watch them all look thru books and pick things out.  I hope to make this an annual event.

We are also trying our first ever Movie Fundraiser night with A Bad Moms Christmas.  Celebration Cinema Rivertown has extended us a deal for $15 that includes a movie ticket to the Monday November 6th 7:30pm show, a regular size pop and popcorn.  We must pre-pay for the tickets so your payment is due tomorrow (Monday 10/30) a flyer came home on Friday.  They require a one-week notice for the # of tickets.  If we get over 100 tickets sold, they will move us to our own private theatre.  If not, we will be in a regular showing.  So I encouraged everyone to invite any other friends to join them for a Moms/Girls /Night out!  On monday November 6th, I (Jackie) will be stationed outside the box office for you to meet with and pick up your ticket and food voucher.  Please come before 7:15 so I can be in the theatre on time too!  (I plan to be up there by 6:30pm.)  I’m working on setting up a family screening for a future movie too.

Wednesday November 29th is a Jets Pizza fundraiser night!
Friday December 1st will be another Popcorn Friday!
Monday December 4th is the Winter Concert for 1st & 2nd Graders at 7:05pm at Grandville High School auditorium.

If you missed the post on the Facebook page- Mr Roberts dressed like Pete the Cat on Wednesday this week as his end of the bet if the students raised at least $350 in the change drive during Book Fair week.  The South community brought in over $600!  All the money went to a school in Texas hit by the hurricane and lost their library.

As you may have seen on the Facebook page, the concrete base was poured for the greenhouse.  The PTC voted to pay for the concrete and the frame for the base.  We can’t wait to see the greenhouse assembled.  Stay tuned for an assembly date!  Big thanks to our gym teacher Mr Meyers (And his brother) for their hard work on the concrete!

In case you missed my post- October is National Principals Month, have your student make a nice note or card and send it in for Mr. Roberts!

The winning class for the BoxTops contest was Mrs. Sisk’s 4th Grade class who turned in a whopping 1,288 Box Tops! We had total count of 6,893 for a submission total of $689.30!
Thank you parents!!

We have such great teachers at South, I came across a few ways to nominate the teachers or classrooms- Feel free to nominate your favorites with these links!
http://fox17online.com/classroom-of-the-week-nomination/

Lots more in the works for our awesome school.  As always, Thanks for your support!

South PTC News 10.15.17

Good afternoon South Families!  Heres whats going on or coming up-

First off, we need to remind every one of the drop off/pick up line rule- No parking and exiting your vehicle in these lines.  We’ve heard complaints (and even witnessed ourselves) people pulling into the drop off line in front of the school, parking their car and then standing in line with their student.  No No No.  If you need to exit your vehicle, then you need to find a parking spot.  If you need to get out of your car to unbuckle a child, then you need to find a parking spot.  Here is the reminder paper and map that was sent home last year and will be sent home again this week to remind everyone. pick-up-drop-off  and the South Drop-Off and Pick-Up Map

This week is our round 2 of the Orange Leaf Challenge.  South Elementary is up against Bursley Elementary in Jenison and they came in really high for their first round, so South families will need to eat a lot of FroYo this week for us to advance to round 3!  South earns 20% of our South sales this week.  Stop in to the Grandville Orange Leaf and put your receipt into the South bucket so we earn credit for the sale! Orange Leaf is off Rivertown Parkway near Wilson in the strip mall by the Family Fare and Qdoba.  It should be a nice week so perfect for FroYo 🙂  Stop by between now and Saturday October 21st!  I will update middle of the week on our facebook page.

Starting tomorrow- our Book Exchange drop off will begin!  Have your student bring in some gently used books from home.  We will collect books until October 26th.  The students who have brought in books will then have the chance to “Shop” for new to them books on Friday October 27th (Shop date pushed back due to October 20th being a half day)  If you have books at home and your student does not need to shop for any, or just a lesser amount, please include a note with your books.  I will be at the school main entrance at drop off each day this week and next to collect books, and write down student & teacher name.  But if you could include a note with the books you send in a Meijer bag, that may be helpful if it’s a busy day or if your student forgets to drop them off in the morning.  if you’d like to help, you can sign up here: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0844a8af29a5ff2-book

Tuesday is a Jets Pizza Fundraiser night!  FundraiserFlyer_Grandville_Oct17

Tuesday & Thursday are also Parent/Teacher Conferences nights.  I’ll get the current Lost & Found items hung up near the main entrance because those bins are already filling up.  Please plan to swing by and take a look for any familiar clothing.
We also love our teachers, so we bring them food!  Its two very busy nights for them, so we have food available in the teacher’s lounge both days.  If you are bringing in food, please get it to the school by 11am on the day it’s needed.  You may send it in early, just put a note on it so the office knows what it is for.
TUESDAY SIGN UP
THURSDAY SIGN UP

Box Tops are being counted this week, we will have an announcement soon on which class had the most.  Keep saving them!  We will do another BoxTops drive in the winter for their next submission deadline in February.  If you have any that expire by the end of this year, please drop them off or send them in to the school and we will include them with this submission.
Keep sending in the Family Fare/Spartan Stores receipts as well!  I’m still collecting those for their Direct Your Dollars campaign.  Once we get to $150,000 in receipts, the school will earn $1,000.  We’ve got a way to go, but thankfully there’s no expiration on them.

Friday October 20th is a half day- dismissal at 11:36am.  It’s also a PTC Meeting day- 9am in the Teachers Lounge -everyone is welcome & encouraged to attend!
Friday is also Kindergarten Silly Sock day to celebrate the letter “S”.

Theres no cost for admission.  And booth spaces were only $15.  We still have room for a few more if you’re interested!  It’s the same day as the high school craft show, so we hope to get a lot of cross-traffic.  If you can’t make it to shop, please consider sharing our event to help spread the word, or invite your friends to the event on the South Elementary (Public) Facebook page.  https://www.facebook.com/events/172723553303074

Thanks to everyone who shopped or helped with the Book Fair!  The poster contest winners were announced and I can’t wait to see their artwork displayed in the library.  And the change drive was a success!  Change was collected for a school in Houston that lost their library during the Hurricane.  Mrs McGulicuddy set a goal of $350, and Principal Roberts even threw in an added incentive if the kids raised $350, he would dress like Pete the Cat.  Well the school went above & beyond and raised $600!  So Pete the Cat will be making an appearance.  I’ll be sure to share the date and pictures!

Thanks for your support, have a great week!

They need volunteers!  You can sign up HERE
And if you really like helping the library, she would still love helpers during the school days, that sign up link is HERE! This link goes until December, so scroll down to find more dates!

During the book fair, our new libriaian Ms McGillicuddy will set up a donation for a school in Texas that lost everything, and we’d like to send them some money to restock their books.  There will be a raffle for a book basket and tickets will be sold to go towards the donations.  Mr Roberts has agreed that if they raise a certain amount, he will dress as a favorite book character for a day!  (Character to be announced).  The annual poster contest will also continue with kids drawing their favorite book and the winner from each grade will have their artwork framed and hung in the library!

While we are on the subject of books, I’m doing a book exchange!  So if you purchase books during book fair, and find you have some gently used ones at home that you’d like to gift to someone else, drop them off at the school the week of October 16th.  I’ll need helpers to collect them.  Then Friday October 20th, however many books your kids bring in, they could choose some other gently used ones.  The link to help is HERE.  If you want to donate books and your child doesn’t need any in exchange, we will donate the books to various organizations (Our teachers, Our library, KDL Grandville, etc)

Fall conferences will be October 17th & 19th.  We will be looking for donations of food for the teachers to feed them since they go from teaching all day, right into meeting with parents and we like to say “Thank you!” for the long day they put in.  Details will be coming!  Also Tuesday night conference I’ve set up a Jets Pizza night, so if your family is running from work to school and meeting with teachers, its an easy dinner solution.  Flyers will be sent home.

Our first ever sale event is scheduled for Saturday October 21st!  It is my hope that we will have people sign up who want to sell their used kids clothing/household items and vendors who have home based businesses.  The Event is posted here, please share.  We need everyones help to share this event and have people come shop.  And if you know someone who sells something, see if they want a booth space.  Just $15! Here is the link to the form to reserve your space!

Hard to believe we are about a month out from Halloween! Class parties and the annual costume parade will all fall on October 31st.  Parties and Parade time will be announced soon.  Room parents will be asking for donations for the parties.  Whatever the room parents cannot get donated and they have to purchase, there is a $25 limit per classroom for reimbursement from the PTC.  Receipts must be kept and turned in with a form that is located in our PTC Mailbox.

Thanks for your support!
