Weekly Update for August 31-September 4

Welcome Back!

It’s hard to believe but it’s that time of the year again – the beginning of a new school year.  Starting tonight, and continuing through the school year, we will be providing our South families with a weekly post with a schedule of events for the upcoming week. This weekly post will include PTC and school wide and/or class specific events such as fieldtrips and assemblies. If you subscribe to the PTC blog, you will receive an e-mail notification when a post is made. The blog entry will be posted on the Grandville South Elementary Parents page and shared with the Grandville South Elementary Facebook page. If you have not already done so, please be sure to like both on Facebook and subscribe to our blog.

General Notes

There will be several new faces at South this year. Let’s give a big welcome to Mr. Kurt Myers (Gym), Ms. Gabrielle Mulder (Art), and Mrs. Jody Dumond (Lunchtime Office Paraprofessional).

Treehouse Daycare will be offering both before- and after-care at South Elementary this year. For more information, please contact Treehouse Daycare at 254-6015.

Attention Parents of Sixth Graders:  All 6th graders are encouraged to obtain insurance for their Chromebooks. The cost is $20 per year.  Please note that the cost to repair a broken screen (without insurance) is $75.  Payment may be made on-line or in the school office. Follow the link for complete instructions.   1-1 Insurance Payment Options If you have children at multiple schools, payment for insurance for each child may be made at one school.

The South PTC Board and South teachers need several more Room Parents for the 2015/2016 school year.  Please consider volunteering.  To sign up, follow the link:  2015/2016 Room Parent Sign-Up.  Please note that no parents have signed up to help in the following classrooms: Mrs. Uhl, Mrs. Hyde, Mr. Karnehm, Mrs. Messina, Mrs. Vezino, Mrs. Boersma, or Ms. Moore.

The PTC is looking for sample Party Plans.  If you have been a room parent in the past or planned a student holiday party, please forward a copy of your party plans to kristygibney@yahoo.com.  All sample plans will be made available on this blog.

In addition, the South PTC Board is looking for a Committee of Volunteers to assist with ideas, planning, and set up for the 2015/2016 Walk-A-Thon and Family BBQ.  The Family BBQ is scheduled for October 2, 2015.  The Committee would meet several times prior to the Family BBQ. As soon as the Committee is formed, the planning process can begin. Please contact Victoria Talsma at 916-6867 or at Victoriatalsma@gmail.com if you are interested and able to help.

Tuesday, September 1st

Back to School Night Open House is tonight from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. This is an important evening for children, parents, and teachers. Tonight you and your children will have the opportunity to meet the principal, meet your child’s’ teacher, and familiarize yourself with your child’s new classroom.  Your children may also bring in their school supplies.

During this time the PTC will also be selling in-stock t-shirts. Please note that sizes will be limited.

Friday Folders will be distributed this evening. Please note that forms for Picture Day (September 10th) will be included in the Friday Folders.

Our children receive the greatest education when South’s dedicated parents and teachers work as a team.

The enthusiasm, support, and involvement of our parents and teachers inspire our children to do their best.

Together our kids can achieve wonderful things.

Here is to another great year!!
