Weekly Update for September 14-18

General Notes

What an AWESOME first week!!  Returning students have adjusted well to their new classrooms, while new students have quickly adapted to previously unfamiliar routines.  In order to promote this new found responsibility and to maintain the students’ high level of confidence, beginning this week, all students are to be dropped off at their respective school entrances.  Students should now proceed on their own to their classrooms. There is staff available should your student need any assistance getting to his or her classroom.  Furthermore, students (primarily K-2nd grades) will be escorted to their respective exits by staff.   If you are picking up your students at the Main Entrance at the conclusion of the school day, the South staff requests that parents wait at the sidewalk and avoid the area under the overhang and benches.  This will assist teachers as they dismiss students.

Reminder: All non-staff entering South Elementary much enter through the Main Entrance, sign in, and obtain a Visitor Sticker.  As you know, your students’ safety is a top priority at South and it is important that staff be able to determine not only who is in the building, but where they can be found at all times.

Volunteers Needed for the Guys and Dolls Dance Committee. The dance is scheduled for February 2016.  This is a much loved and incredibly well-attended event.  Please contact Victoria Talsma at 916-6867 or at Victoriatalsma@gmail.com if you are interested and able to help with this Committee.

Walk-A-Thon and Family BBQ

The PTC Board and Family BBQ Committee is busy planning the Walk-a-Thon and Family BBQ, both scheduled for Friday, October 2nd.  This is an awesome fundraiser and family event, but requires the help of many volunteers.  To sign up to volunteer, please click the link below.  With your help, this will be another great evening for South students, families, and staff.
