Mrs. Messina’s 3rd Graders celebrated National Pig Day (March 1st) on March 2nd.  They listened to pig stories, learned facts about pigs, shared their opinions about pigs, made 3 Little Pig trail mix, and decorated pig cookies.  After finishing their cookies, the students wrote a “Steps in a Process” piece using their “time order words.”

  • It has been suggested that the PTC consider the use of the Scrip Program as a way to earn money for our school. The Scrip program would allow South PTC to purchase gift     certificates, “or scrips,” from popular retailers at a discount. Parents then buy the gift certificates from the PTC at face value. The difference in price is kept by the PTC. Parents spend the “scrip” at the retailer, where it’s worth the full face value.  A Volunteer is needed to investigate the enrollment process and take action. Volunteers would also be responsible for creating communications to parents regarding the program and would be responsible for maintaining the “scrips” available for purchase. If you are interested, please sign up here: Scrip Program Volunteer
  • Volunteers are needed each week for Copy Crew.  Volunteers will make copies, laminate, or do other office activities for teachers and staff.  If you are able to help, please sign up at Copy Crew.  The time commitment each day will vary from 15 minutes to 2 hours depending on the needs of teachers and staff.
  • Due to construction, the South Library will be closing May 1st. In order to get the space ready for construction, the books must be boxed and the wall shelves covered.  If you are able to assist, please sign up here: Library Volunteer

Tuesday, March 15th

The 5th graders will participate in the annual Lung Dissection today.

Tonight is South’s Annual Mother/Son Event at 3 Mile Project from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.  The Event is open to all South Elementary boys and their moms, grandmas, etc.  3 Mile Project is located at 3050 Walkent Drive NW in Grand Rapids. Orders were due on Friday, March 11th.  Tickets may be purchased at the door, but it is highly recommended that payment be made prior to arrival.  This will help ensure that our volunteers are able to spend as much time with their sons as other participants.  The cost is $10 per couple, plus an additional $5 per boy, with a family cap of $20.00.  Parents must sign a Release, a copy of which was provided with the Order Form, is available here Mother Son Event Ticket Order Form, and will be available at the door.  If you have any questions prior to the event, please contact Kristy Gibney at kristygibney@yahoo.com.
