Hey South families! Heres some info to know-
Mrs. Moore wanted to share some info about 6th graders raising money for camp: The sixth grade classes will be hosting a snack sale each Friday. The cost is $.25 to to $1 per item. There is small candy, suckers, goldfish, chips, pudding cups, string cheese, Gatorade, flavored water, pickles…. Sales will be during lunch and recess.
Also, starting Feb 6, they’ll be selling candy grams for Valentine’s Day. Handwritten notes and a sucker will be delivered on Valentine’s Day. Sixth grade students will be selling them to parents and students before school, during lunch, and after school the whole week of feb 6. The cost is $1. (How cute is that!!)
Girls On The Run:: Last call for all 3rd, 4th and 5th grade girls! Registration is will close February 1 for the 2017 season for Girls On The Run! There are two spots still open for our Tuesday/Thursday team.
What is Girls On The Run you ask….well let me give you the run down:
What is it? Girls on the Run is a curriculum based, after-school character development program designed for 3rd – 5th grade girls of ALL fitness and ability levels. The 10-week curriculum attempts to help each girl find and stay true to her REAL self. Groups of 8 to 15 girls meet twice a week with their trained, volunteer coaches to discuss important life lessons while playing fun running games.
Girls on the Run emphasizes independent thinking, making healthy choices, healthy group dynamics and problem solving. The curriculum stresses peer support and doing your best. The program finishes with the girls running or walking in a non-competitive 5k.
South’s 2017 will begin the week of February 27. There will not be practice over spring break. Registration fees are tiered based on family income and range from $15-$145

Our awesome new Grandville shirts will be coming home with kids tomorrow (Monday!) Please check your kiddos backpack when they get home.
BoxTops contest is in full swing! Completed sheets or baggies with BoxTops are due back to school on February 10th to count towards the classroom contest. Class that collects the most BoxTops will win a pizza & ice cream party! Please make sure if you send in baggies of BoxTops that it has students name & teacher name on it so we know who to give the credit!
We will also start collecting Family Fare and D&W receipts to be saved for their Direct your Dollars program. If you shop at those stores, please send in your original receipts with your children to be dropped off in the office to the PTC mailbox. Once we have reached $150,000 we earn $1,000! So send those receipts in to us anytime!
Art to Remember papers will be coming home soon if your child wants to create something and have it made onto a keepsake like mugs, calendars or mouse pads. Lots of options are available and info will be coming home this next week.
Pastry Puffin fundraiser went really well. Thanks to everyone that participated and picked them up Friday after school. If you weren’t able to make it, the last remaining ones are in the school kitchen freezer. Please stop by the office and someone can get them for you. Thanks to everyone who participated- we raised $3,400!
Thanks to everyone who participates in our dining fundraisers too, those add up and make a difference towards what we can afford to pay for! (And I know I’m always ready for a night to get takeout AND have portion of the proceeds go to the school- if we are eating out anyways, it might as well go towards a great cause!)
Valentines parties will be February 14th! Teachers or room parents will be getting info out very soon if they have not already. Room parents remember you can get reimbursed for up to $25 of party supplies if you cannot get items donated by other class parents. Save your receipts and there is a form in the PTC mailbox. Someone in the office can help you find them if you’re not familiar.
We will be looking for key positions to be filled on our board or as coordinators for the 2017/18 school year. If you are interested or want to nominate someone, please feel free to attend one of the upcoming PTC meetings or contact any of us on the board (Alison Edidin, Victoria Talsma, Kristy Gibney, Samantha Siegert or myself Jackie Stone)
