South PTC News 10.15.17
Good afternoon South Families! Heres whats going on or coming up-
First off, we need to remind every one of the drop off/pick up line rule- No parking and exiting your vehicle in these lines. We’ve heard complaints (and even witnessed ourselves) people pulling into the drop off line in front of the school, parking their car and then standing in line with their student. No No No. If you need to exit your vehicle, then you need to find a parking spot. If you need to get out of your car to unbuckle a child, then you need to find a parking spot. Here is the reminder paper and map that was sent home last year and will be sent home again this week to remind everyone. pick-up-drop-off and the South Drop-Off and Pick-Up Map
This week is our round 2 of the Orange Leaf Challenge. South Elementary is up against Bursley Elementary in Jenison and they came in really high for their first round, so South families will need to eat a lot of FroYo this week for us to advance to round 3! South earns 20% of our South sales this week. Stop in to the Grandville Orange Leaf and put your receipt into the South bucket so we earn credit for the sale! Orange Leaf is off Rivertown Parkway near Wilson in the strip mall by the Family Fare and Qdoba. It should be a nice week so perfect for FroYo 🙂 Stop by between now and Saturday October 21st! I will update middle of the week on our facebook page.
Starting tomorrow- our Book Exchange drop off will begin! Have your student bring in some gently used books from home. We will collect books until October 26th. The students who have brought in books will then have the chance to “Shop” for new to them books on Friday October 27th (Shop date pushed back due to October 20th being a half day) If you have books at home and your student does not need to shop for any, or just a lesser amount, please include a note with your books. I will be at the school main entrance at drop off each day this week and next to collect books, and write down student & teacher name. But if you could include a note with the books you send in a Meijer bag, that may be helpful if it’s a busy day or if your student forgets to drop them off in the morning. if you’d like to help, you can sign up here: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0844a8af29a5ff2-book
Tuesday is a Jets Pizza Fundraiser night! FundraiserFlyer_Grandville_Oct17
Tuesday & Thursday are also Parent/Teacher Conferences nights. I’ll get the current Lost & Found items hung up near the main entrance because those bins are already filling up. Please plan to swing by and take a look for any familiar clothing.
We also love our teachers, so we bring them food! Its two very busy nights for them, so we have food available in the teacher’s lounge both days. If you are bringing in food, please get it to the school by 11am on the day it’s needed. You may send it in early, just put a note on it so the office knows what it is for.

Box Tops are being counted this week, we will have an announcement soon on which class had the most. Keep saving them! We will do another BoxTops drive in the winter for their next submission deadline in February. If you have any that expire by the end of this year, please drop them off or send them in to the school and we will include them with this submission.
Keep sending in the Family Fare/Spartan Stores receipts as well! I’m still collecting those for their Direct Your Dollars campaign. Once we get to $150,000 in receipts, the school will earn $1,000. We’ve got a way to go, but thankfully there’s no expiration on them.
Friday October 20th is a half day- dismissal at 11:36am. It’s also a PTC Meeting day- 9am in the Teachers Lounge -everyone is welcome & encouraged to attend!
Friday is also Kindergarten Silly Sock day to celebrate the letter “S”.
Saturday October 21st is our first Vendor Sale Event! The school will be full of people selling tons of gently used kids clothing and homemade items along with some home based businesses. Theres no cost for admission. And booth spaces were only $15. We still have room for a few more if you’re interested! It’s the same day as the high school craft show, so we hope to get a lot of cross-traffic. If you can’t make it to shop, please consider sharing our event to help spread the word, or invite your friends to the event on the South Elementary (Public) Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/events/172723553303074
Theres no school on Monday October 23rd!
Friday October 27th we have 3 dining fundraiser options for you. Our dining coordinator is working hard on setting up new places and giving you lots of options for your family! The 27th will feature Potbelly Sandwiches, or Panda Express, or Tom & Chee! Flyers will be coming home!
Tuesday October 31st is Halloween and of course our classrooms will be having their class parties and parade. The Parade is at 2pm and parents/grandparent are welcome to attend.

Thanks to everyone who shopped or helped with the Book Fair! The poster contest winners were announced and I can’t wait to see their artwork displayed in the library. And the change drive was a success! Change was collected for a school in Houston that lost their library during the Hurricane. Mrs McGulicuddy set a goal of $350, and Principal Roberts even threw in an added incentive if the kids raised $350, he would dress like Pete the Cat. Well the school went above & beyond and raised $600! So Pete the Cat will be making an appearance. I’ll be sure to share the date and pictures!
Thanks for your support, have a great week!
